A missing model, stale datasheet, unclear operating condition or bad distributor handoff can remove a product without anyone issuing a dramatic rejection. It simply disappears from the shortlist. The strongest positioning does not claim that one device dominates every dimension. It identifies the application in which the tradeoff makes sense, the evidence that supports the claim, and the next step an engineer can take. Technical-commercial truths that rarely fit on the line card.

These are practical patterns I use to find the gap between a good product and the commercial system required to get it designed, sourced and reordered.

A datasheet can be the best salesperson or a beautifully typeset objection.The document must help the engineer understand fit, conditions, interfaces and risk. Attractive ambiguity still leaves the part off the schematic.
Parametric search audits the master data in public.Missing units, mixed conditions, loose category logic and stale lifecycle values become visible the moment a buyer compares three products side by side.
A sample without context is an expensive keychain.Application, account, project, volume, evaluation criterion, owner and next step determine if the sample enters a design or a desk drawer.
“Pin-compatible” and “commercially painless” are not synonyms.Firmware, layout, qualification, sourcing, test, documentation and field risk can turn a plausible replacement into a real engineering program.
Stock is not positioning.Availability can win urgent business, but long-term preference still depends on application value, confidence, support and lifecycle economics.
An unavailable product has limited persuasive power.Marketing, inventory and supply communication must share reality. A beautiful campaign cannot solder a backordered part onto a board.
AI does not repair the source record.It magnifies it. Consistent, approved product facts improve scale; conflicting revisions help the organization be confidently inconsistent in more places.
An EOL notice is a customer-experience moment.Timing, affected products, last-buy rules, alternates, migration support and account outreach can preserve trust or invite a competitor into the platform.
Design-win count needs an economic footnote.A prototype, qualified device, nominated part and production platform do not carry equal probability, unit demand, margin or lifecycle value.
