Deep Geothermal: Connect the Drilling Story to the Energy Buyer

AI-supported information and commercial positioning around a substantial energy commitment.

A drilling improvement and a power purchase agreement are different achievements. In this engagement, both were part of the project story: a 35% increase in rate of penetration through granite and a 100 MW power purchase agreement with a major cloud provider.

My work sat between the technical information and the commercial account of what it meant. I worked on AI-supported analysis and executive reporting, together with the positioning and communication for corporate energy buyers. The physical drilling and energy engineering remained with the client's specialists.

Two audiences needed a connected explanation

The technical team needed its work represented accurately. The prospective off-taker needed an understandable proposition. The information could not simply move from one audience to the other unchanged and be expected to do the same job.

This is where requirements gathering and storytelling become closely related. What is the reader evaluating? Which evidence helps answer that question? What belongs in a technical discussion, and what should the executive account make clear first?

The digital and reporting work helped organize those perspectives. I was interested in making the explanation usable rather than merely impressive. A significant technical improvement deserves a clear account of its relevance, with the underlying meaning preserved.

The technical milestone needed an economic context

An improvement in drilling performance has a meaning within the technical operation. A prospective energy buyer needs to understand its relationship to the commercial proposition.

That does not require treating the milestone as proof of every later outcome. It requires explaining where it fits. The reporting and positioning work helped the organization connect different levels of the story: the technical development, the project and the prospective customer relationship. I find that work especially useful for a company moving into a larger commercial conversation. Its internal progress needs a clear external meaning before the right audience can evaluate it.

The commercial work continued

The retained relationship covered corporate power-purchase marketing and reporting around the energy proposition. The agreement described in the project record is not presented here as a claim that every future delivery obligation has already been fulfilled.

The important business connection was between a developing capability and an audience with a defined energy need. Helping that audience understand the offer involved technical translation, commercial positioning and the digital material supporting the conversation.

This is a recurring pattern in my work, although the details are rarely the same. A company can be making substantial progress and still need help explaining the significance to the people whose decisions affect what happens next.
