Water Technology: A Technical Proposition Became a $28 Million Sales Story

AI-supported buyer tools and institutional positioning for desalination and arid agriculture.

The customer was not buying a presentation about water. The customer was considering equipment, economics and a long-term agricultural decision. That distinction shaped this engagement.

I worked on the AI-supported information, buyer tools and positioning around a desalination and arid-agriculture initiative. The assignment connected environmental information with a commercial explanation for institutional audiences. It resulted in $28 million in desalination-unit sales across agricultural ministries in the Middle East and North Africa over 18 months.

Put the information into the buyer's decision

The digital work included soil-information analysis and an interactive pricing and return model. The point was to help a prospective buyer understand the proposition in a relevant context. A technical company can explain the science in detail and still need help making the offer understandable to the person evaluating a purchase.

Requirements gathering was important because the tool and the story had to support a real commercial conversation. The assumptions behind a model need to be intelligible. The audience needs to know which inputs matter and what the output is intended to show.

My contribution connected that digital work with the narrative, the presentation and the institutional relationship. The equipment engineering and agricultural operation remained with the client's specialists. I helped make the business proposition accessible to a different group of decision-makers.

A return model should invite examination

A calculation is most useful when the reader can understand what drives it. The assumptions are part of the commercial explanation, especially when the offer combines equipment with an unfamiliar technical story.

The digital tool gave the conversation a place to explore those relationships. The presentation then needed to connect the model with the actual offer and the institutional audience's concerns. The work is both technical and editorial: the information has to be organized, and its significance has to be expressed clearly. A convincing number alone does not establish a convincing business case. The reader needs to understand the route to it.

The work followed the investment conversation

The continuing scope involved quarterly positioning advice around agricultural investment. That is a different rhythm from a one-time campaign. The questions change as an opportunity moves from introduction to evaluation and then into a wider relationship.

The significance of the engagement lies in that connection. Environmental information, a commercial model and an institutional story each had a role. The useful work was making them support one coherent account of what the company could offer.

This is the kind of project in which I am often most useful: the company has substance, the mission matters, and the path from technical capability to a clear business conversation still needs work.
