Subsea Cable Services: Make the Customer's View as Clear as the Technical One

Digital service information and B2B communication around specialized ocean-floor support.

Eighteen hours can be a meaningful difference in a service response. During this engagement, average ocean-floor cable fault response time fell by that amount, and the company secured master service agreements with five tier-one telecommunications operators.

My work connected AI-supported information with a customer-facing service portal and the B2B explanation of the offer. The underlying cable operations, physical equipment and field response belonged to the relevant specialists. The digital and communication work helped the customer understand the service around them.

Explain the relationship, not just the capability

An analytical capability is only part of a service proposition. The prospective customer also wants to understand what information it will receive and how the relationship will work.

The digital experience brought fault information and dispatch tracking into a more coherent customer view. That created a useful place for the commercial story: the company could explain the service through the information and processes a customer would encounter.

I worked across the requirements, the custom digital solution and the communication around it. Those tasks belonged together. A portal that uses different language from the sales material makes the customer do unnecessary interpretive work. A sales story that promises more than the service provides creates a different problem.

The service becomes visible through its information

Specialized support often happens out of the customer's sight. The digital account can help make the relationship intelligible without exposing the customer to every operational detail.

The useful question is what the customer needs to know to understand the state of the service and the next relevant step. That question should influence the portal as much as the wording in a proposal. When the digital experience and the commercial explanation agree, the organization gives the customer a clearer account of its role. The project brought that connection into focus for a service whose underlying work is unusually difficult to observe directly.

Keep the account useful after the agreement

The ongoing engagement covered the service-information platform and B2B customer communication. That continuing scope matters because the relationship does not end when a contract is signed.

The recorded response-time improvement was a project result. The agreements were a commercial outcome. My contribution helped connect the information, customer experience and explanation that supported the business.

The attraction of this assignment was its specificity. A technically unusual service still has a customer who needs clarity. Building that clarity into the digital experience can be as important as finding the words for the first introduction.
